Signs Your Garage Door Needs Repair or Replacement

Blog

When you are a homeowner, one of the components of your home that you always count and rely on is your garage door (as well as your garage door opener). Many homeowners take it for granted that their garage door will always be functional, and they don't think about committing to routine maintenance and observation of their garage door's performance. However, just like any other mechanical system, your garage door could malfunction or break down. In order to be proactive about your garage-door service, repair, and replacement needs, get to know some of the signs that your garage door is in need of some work. Then you can call for garage-door services before your garage door breaks down completely.

Your Energy Bills Have Skyrocketed

Usually, if your electric bill goes up a great deal in any given month, you will blame the overuse of your air conditioner or other heating and cooling appliances. These are not always the culprits of increases in your energy bills, though.

A malfunctioning garage door may draw more power than it normally would. It can draw so much power to make a noticeable impact on your monthly energy costs. Additionally, if you have an older garage door opener (approximately ten years old or more), the opener may also be drawing more energy than a newer model would. Over the years, it may require more and more power to function.

There Is a Signal Delay or Your Garage Door Operates Slowly

Electronic devices sometimes do not work properly or have issues with the signals between devices and remotes. However, generally speaking, garage doors and their remotes have little to no delay between when you push the button and when the door responds.

If you begin to notice that there is a consistent signal delay between the openers and the garage door, this could be an indication that there is a short in the system or that the electrical components are failing. You may also find that you need to hit the open or close button several times before the opener responds. If a simple battery change does not resolve the issue, then you likely will need to call a garage-door repair service to take a look and either fix or replace the system.

Now that you know more about a few of the signs that your garage door needs repairs and service, you can be sure that you keep an eye on the system and call a company such as Howard's Overhead Doors Inc. for help before your garage door stops working completely.

Finding the Right Garage Door

When my husband and I first built our home, we had no idea which kind of garage door would blend in with the exterior facade of our place. However, after we mulled over a bunch of different options, we decided to go with a few fancy, carriage door styled garage doors. In addition to adding an old-world feel to our place, they also worked incredibly well. I know that it sounds silly, but our garage doors are one of my favorite things about our new place. I want you to love your garage doors as much as I love mine, which is why I built this website.
