3 Types of Garage Doors That You Should Consider

Buying the right garage door for your home is very important because of how greatly it can affect both the curb appeal and resale value of your home. Wood, aluminum, and steel are just a few of the many great garage door options available to you.

Garage doors that are made out of wood are going to be your best option if you are looking to improve the curb appeal of your home. The sheer beauty of a wooden garage door is hard to match. In addition, you do have many options to choose from due to the many types of wood that can be used in the construction of a garage door.

If you want a wooden garage door that is going to be able to stand up to impacts and last a long time, you will want to consider purchasing a solid wood garage door. While this door is going to be very durable, it is also going to be among the most expensive garage door options available.

However, you do have the option to purchase a garage door that is made out of plywood and wrapped in a layer of real wood. This option is not going to be as durable as a solid wood door, but it is going to be much cheaper and lighter. In addition, this type of door will simulate the appearance of a solid wood door.

Aluminum is a good option because it is ideal for use on extra-wide or double-wide garage doors. This is because the aluminum doors are going to be very light, which will put a lot less strain on a garage door opening mechanism than either wood or steel.

Now, this light weight does not mean that the aluminum door will be fragile. You can purchase aluminum garage doors with laminate panels that will stand up to impacts and scratches, although those laminate panels will increase the price of the door.

Finally, you will want to consider a steel garage door if you want something that is extremely durable and do not want to perform a lot of maintenance. In most cases, a steel door is only going to require maintenance if it is scratched.

If the door is scratched, you will want to seal and repair the scratch as soon as possible to prevent rust from spreading across the door. These doors are also a great choice because they can often come with lifetime warranties.

Finding the Right Garage Door

When my husband and I first built our home, we had no idea which kind of garage door would blend in with the exterior facade of our place. However, after we mulled over a bunch of different options, we decided to go with a few fancy, carriage door styled garage doors. In addition to adding an old-world feel to our place, they also worked incredibly well. I know that it sounds silly, but our garage doors are one of my favorite things about our new place. I want you to love your garage doors as much as I love mine, which is why I built this website.
